In October 2016. I did a hike from Gansbaai to Kleinbaai (West Coast of South Africa)- along the coast. I took a chance and ventured through the barrier fence with sign: “NO ENTRY. BY ORDER. PRIVATE PROPERTY!”
What I saw along the coast was a) Magnificent pristine view of the bay and b) shocking dumping ground of Marine Debris!
So I did an awareness hike first on 26 Deptember with a few friends, just to wet the appetites . We cleaned about 3km of coast – But there was still 4km of massive marine debris left – and on 31 October – we went in with I&J’s permission – escorted by security – 22 volunteers together with Kim Sharklady and friends bringing in their Toyota’s to help remove the marine Debris.
We filled 78 bags weighing in at 31.20 kg and much rope.
